WRITING TIPS FOR FINAL EXAM
Just a few reminders
- Write number in words, except in dates (May 25th, 2003), time (3 o'clock) age (She was 11 years old) but not " 5 minutes later" _____ Five minutes later...
- Write short sentences not a sentence of 5 lines without any fullstops.
- Separate your sentences with fullstops, NOT with commas. E.g. The family went to the countryside for a picnic, They took sandwiches and fruit for lunch, They went by car, It was a beautiful day.
BUT The family went to the countryside for a picnic. They took sandwiches and fruit for lunch. They went by car. It was a beautiful day.
- Try not to start a sentence with "also" you can use "In addition".
- Be careful with your past tenses.
- Try using the past perfect tense.
- Include showing words or sentences by using adjectives, similes
- Include fantasy elements if appropriate.
- Avoid closing your story with "They lived happily ever after".
- Make sure who you are talking about.
- If one paragraph is too long, you can split it in more paragraphs.
- Give your story a good title.
- Remember to make the introduction "catchy" so as to attract the reader's attention.
- Your teacher will not be the only reader, everybody has to understand what you are writing.
- Clear, legible handwriting.
